One recent brilliant addition to our search engine is Code.org, a site which gives a fantastic introduction to computer coding. It has lots of free tutorials designed for use in different settings – in-school, home-schooling, after-school and they can be taught by teachers, parents or volunteers.
The courses are self-guided and whilst the teacher workshops are only available in the United States, the courses themselves are used in over 180 countries. Age groups are catered for and the tutorials are written for use in browsers or tablets.
We particularly like the fact that the courses are based on themes that appeal to young people. For instance you can make your own Angry Birds game or create a story or game starring Disney Infinity characters.
